Visual Conditions
Normal
- In a normally shaped eye, light falls on the retina, enabling the eye to see without the use of corrective eyewear such as glasses and contact lenses.
Nearsightedness
(myopia) is a very common vision condition in which light falls in front of the retina rather than on the retina. As a result, you can clearly see objects that are near to you, but objects farther away appear blurry. Myopia may develop gradually or rapidly, often worsening during childhood and adolescence, and this vision problem tends to run in families. Myopia can easily be corrected with laser vision correction.
Farsightedness
(hyperopia) is also a very common vision condition in which light falls behind the retina. As a result, you can see objects in the distance quite clearly but nearby objects appear blurry. This condition is usually present at birth and tends to run in families. Our eye doctors can perform a thorough evaluation to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for laser vision correction.
Astigmatism
is a mild and easily treatable imperfection in the curvature of your eye; this condition can cause blurred vision. It occurs when the front surface of your eye (cornea) instead of being even and smooth in all directions, may have some areas that are flatter or steeper. Astigmatism is very common and can be corrected via laser vision correction.
Presbyopia
is the gradual loss of your ability to focus actively on nearby objects such as newspapers, printed material and labels. This condition usually develops after you turn 40 years old. Most people become aware that they have presbyopia when they start needing to hold newspapers and magazines at arm´s length to read.
